Advocating for Equitable Representation: A Plea to His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello, for Lokoja 1

In the intricate tapestry of Kogi State's political landscape, the role of His Excellency, Governor Alh. Yahaya Bello, as the father of all, becomes pivotal in ensuring fairness and equity. This article seeks to draw attention to the need for careful consideration in appointing the Caretaker and Executive Chairman of Lokoja Local Government, with a focus on Lokoja 1.

Lokoja 1's Remarkable Contribution:

Despite facing challenges, the people of Lokoja 1 stood resilient and delivered a massive mandate in the recent election that led to the emergence of Ahmed Usman Ododo as the Governor-elect of Kogi State under the APC platform. This commendable effort was particularly noteworthy considering the untimely demise of the late Chairman, Hon Dasebe Muhammad, on the eve of the election.

Overloaded Lokoja 2 Constituency:

The current distribution of key positions in both the state and local government reveals an overload in Lokoja 2 constituency. With prominent figures like Hon Aliyu Umar, Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon Danladi Aguye, representing Lokoja-Koto Federal Constituency, Dr. Ramatu Tijani Aliyu, immediate Minister of state FCT, Barr. Ehimon, DG Procurement and other SA's and SSA's to state and local government, the need for balanced representation becomes evident.

Less Representation in Lokoja 1:

Contrastingly, some Wards in Lokoja 1 has not tasted the seat of the Executive Chairman, leaving the constituency with only one elected representative, Hon Ebaiya Shehu Tijjani, at the Kogi State House of Assembly. The imbalance in elected positions in Lokoja 1 calls for a reconsideration to ensure fair representation for the state capital.

A Lesson from Okene:

Drawing inspiration from the organized sharing formula in Okene 1, where equity and fairness were maintained despite an overload of elected officials, a similar approach is proposed for Lokoja 1. This reference point from Okene can guide the Governor in his decision-making process, fostering a just distribution of leadership positions among sister constituencies.

Public Opinion and Grassroots Support:

Numerous opinion writers and political analysts have echoed the sentiment that Lokoja 1 should continue with the seat of the Executive Chairman. The grassroots, in particular, clamor for representation, emphasizing the importance of considering the wishes of the people in this decision-making process.

In conclusion, we earnestly urge His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello, to use his wisdom and discretion to ensure that Lokoja 1 receives its fair share of representation. As a state capital situated at the center stage, a balanced distribution of elected positions is not only wise but also crucial for fostering a sense of inclusivity and justice. May God guide His Excellency in making decisions that align with the aspirations of the people of Lokoja Local Government.
