Hearts United: NANS JCC Kogi State’s “Breaking Barriers” Sparks a Brighter Tomorrow for Girls, Unveiled her Outreached Foundation.

On 8 December 2025,  In a vibrant gathering that turned Kogi State Polytechnic into a beacon of hope, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council (JCC) Kogi State hosted the one‑day Collouquim “Breaking Barriers: Advancing Girl‑Child Education and Gender Equality,” framed under the uplifting theme “Empowering Girls Today for a Stronger Tomorrow.” Students from the twelve tertiary institutions across Kogi State filled the auditorium, their enthusiasm palpable as the event marked the launch of the newly unveiled “Advancing Girl‑Child Education Initiative,” an educational outreach scheme designed to reach vulnerable communities and lift the dreams of countless girls.


The soul of the occasion was Comr. Usman Habibat Oyiza, who wears the dual hat of event organizer and Director on Gender for NANS JCC Kogi State. In his opening remarks, Oyiza painted a vivid picture of the transformative power of education, declaring that investing in a girl’s learning lays the foundation for a stronger nation and that this initiative would provide crucial mentorship and support to those who might otherwise be left behind. His words set the tone for a day steeped in purpose and possibility.


Presiding over the forum was Hon. Acharu Okpanachi, the Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development of Kogi State, whose presence lent gravitas to the proceedings. 



Joining her on the dais were a constellation of distinguished guests: the Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Kogi State Barr Oluwakemi Omeiza, Hajiya Nana Khadijah Abubakar, CEO of CYAWEI, Prof. Usman Salisu Ogbo, Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, HOD Mass Communication Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja, Comr. Muhammed Saeed, NANS Zone C Secretary‑General, Comr. Usman Ibrahim Dende, Vice‑President of NAPS, the ANFS State Coordinator Kogi State Comr Celina James, Comr. Sunday Adeola, National President of NAKOSS amongst others. Their collective presence underscored the collaborative spirit driving the push for gender equality in education.


The program unfolded with a series of innovative guest speakers who shared insightful stories of dismantling societal barriers, followed by a dynamic panel discussion that brought together educators, activists, and young entrepreneurs. 



Their dialogues willed the audience to envision a future where every girl can chase her aspirations without restraint. As the afternoon sun filtered through the hall, the atmosphere lifted further with captivating musical displays, heartfelt comedy sketches, and a spirited dance competition, each performance echoing the forum’s message that empowerment can be both profound and joyous.


By day’s end, participants departed with hearts full of renewed purpose and minds equipped with the knowledge of the resources available through the Advancing Girl‑Child Education Initiative. 



Organizers announced plans to extend the outreach to even more vulnerable communities in the months ahead, reaffirming NANS JCC Kogi State’s steadfast commitment to breaking barriers and shaping a future where every girl can pursue her dreams without limits. The echo of laughter, song, and impassioned speeches will linger long after the curtains fell, a testament to the power of united hearts and collective action.
