NANS JCC CHAIRMEN DECLARE KANO STAKEHOLDERS’ SUSPENSION OF ELECTED OFFICERS "NULL, VOID, UNCONSTITUTIONAL".
The National Forum cites NANS Constitution, warns against “constitutional anarchy,” calls for investigation of stakeholders’ body
ABUJA APRIL 23, 2026
The National Forum of Joint Campus Council (JCC) Chairmen of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has declared the purported suspension of elected officers of NANS JCC Kano Axis by the Kano State Stakeholders Forum as “unconstitutional, ultra vires, null, void, and of no legal effect.”
In a strongly worded rejoinder issued on Friday and addressed to the Chairman and Secretary of the Kano State Stakeholders Forum, the Forum of JCC Chairmen rejected the resolutions contained in a document dated April 21, 2026, titled "Kano State Stakeholders Disciplinary Committee Official Resolutions."
Only Senate Can Suspend” — Forum Cites Constitution
The Forum said the stakeholders’ body lacks constitutional authority to discipline elected NANS officials. Quoting Article 8, Section 3 (vi) of the NANS Constitution, the statement stressed that only the NANS Senate is empowered to suspend or impeach any official found guilty of negligence, embezzlement, or misappropriation.
“Nowhere does the Constitution recognize a ‘Stakeholders Forum’ or ‘Stakeholders Disciplinary Committee’ as a body with disciplinary powers over elected officials,” the rejoinder read. “Your committee is unknown to the Constitution and therefore lacks locus standi.
Due Process Violated
The Forum further argued that *Article 17* of the NANS Constitution mandates due process in all disciplinary matters, including proper notification and action only by appropriate authority. It described the stakeholders’ action as a “gross violation of due process and constitutional order.”
“It is trite law that you cannot place something on nothing and expect it to stand,” the statement added. “Having no constitutional foundation, all actions purportedly taken by your committee are null, void, and of no legal effect.”
Officers Remain Legitimate
The National Forum of JCC Chairmen stated categorically that it does not recognize any suspension or removal carried out outside constitutional provisions. “The affected officials remain the legitimate and substantive office holders of NANS JCC Kano Axis,” it declared.
*Call for Probe, Warning Issued*
The Forum called on the NANS National Executive Council (NEC) and the NANS Senate Arm to immediately investigate the activities of the Kano stakeholders, ascertain motives behind the “unconstitutional interference,” and take disciplinary measures against those attempting to undermine the NANS Constitution.
It also issued a warning against what it termed “constitutional anarchy.”
“Any attempt to usurp constitutional powers or destabilize the structure of NANS will be firmly resisted by the National Forum of JCC Chairmen. We will not watch the sanctity of our Constitution desecrated for personal or political ends,” the statement said.
Supremacy of Constitution
The rejoinder concluded by reaffirming the supremacy of the NANS Constitution, stating that it is binding on all members and bodies within the association.
