PRESS STATEMENT: UNLAWFUL DETENTION OF KOGI STATE POLYTECHNIC GRADUATE, ABDULHAMEED SADIQ: AN URGENT CALL FOR INTERVENTION BY THE KOGI STATE GOVERNOR
The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) vehemently condemns the protracted and unjust detention of Abdulhameed Sadiq, a recent graduate of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja and a full supporter of this great administration , known as "KogiBorn." For five months, Mr. Sadiq has been held without trial or conviction, ostensibly due to a Facebook post critiquing the conduct of the Kogi State Accountant General toward public service holder's. This detention represents a flagrant violation of fundamental rights and an alarming overreach of authority.NAPS urgently calls upon the Kogi State Government to:
1. Immediately release Abdulhameed Sadiq from unlawful detention.
2. Ensure a fair and transparent trial, should credible evidence necessitate judicial proceedings.
3. Solicit the prompt intervention of His Excellency, the Governor of Kogi State, renowned for his commitment to student welfare, to address this grievous miscarriage of justice.
This prolonged detention constitutes a direct affront to the constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of expression and an egregious abuse of power. NAPS demands that the Kogi State Government uphold the principles of justice, equity, and human rights, while considering the profound humanitarian implications of Mr. Sadiq’s ordeal. We implore the authorities to act swiftly to rectify this injustice and reaffirm their commitment to the rule of law and the protection of citizens’ rights.
Dist. Sen. Danjuma Bulus Akolo
Deputy Senate President, National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS)
