NAPS Calls on U.S. Government to Reconsider Planned Deportation of Nigerian Students

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) expresses deep concern over recent reports regarding the planned deportation of some Nigerians from the United States, particularly those who are students pursuing their academic dreams in various institutions across the country.

As the largest student body representing polytechnic students in Nigeria, we appeal to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the U.S. government to reconsider this decision, especially in cases involving Nigerian students who are legally enrolled in academic programs. The United States remains one of the top destinations for Nigerian students, particularly in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), where they contribute immensely to research, innovation, and development.

Many of these students are future leaders, scholars, and professionals who will play critical roles in advancing global knowledge and strengthening the ties between Nigeria and the United States. Their continued stay in the U.S. not only benefits their personal development but also fosters stronger diplomatic, economic, and educational relations between both nations.

We urge the U.S. government to assess each case with fairness and compassion, ensuring that students who meet legal and academic requirements are allowed to continue their studies without fear of deportation. We also call on the Nigerian government, through the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), to engage with their U.S. counterparts to seek a resolution that safeguards the interests of affected students.

NAPS remains committed to advocating for the rights and welfare of Nigerian students globally and will continue to engage relevant stakeholders to ensure that their academic aspirations are not disrupted.

Yours In Service,

Comrade Aliyu Omotayo Yusuf, CNPS
