The leadership of the North Central Citizens Council (NCCC) has condoled with the good people of Plateau State over the collapse of school building.  The death toll in a school building which collapsed in Jos, Plateau State on Friday has increased from 17 to 22.

The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Sunday Àbdu, had earlier confirmed 17 persons dead after a rescue operation at the Saint Academy located at the Busa Buji community in Jos North LGA of the state

But the state Commissioner for Information, Musa Ashoms, who gave an update on the incident in a statement he issued on Friday night, confirmed that the death toll had risen to 22 while 154 persons suffered different degrees of injuries.

According to the National Coordinator of NCCC, Comrade Mohammed Eneji, he described the incident as tragic and sad, owing to the fact that majority of the casualties recorded so far are students and future generation of the state and country at large.

We can't afford such kind of avoidable situation where lives of children are taken due to negligence and lack of professionalism. We condemn the school owners for neglecting early signs and warnings from the building as we all know that a building doesn't just collapse overnight, hence putting the lives of hundreds of innocent children at risk.

We here by call on the State Government of Plateau State and the Commissioner of Police to immediately arrest the owners of the school and carry out a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse, so as to serve as a lesson to others.

We will also love to sympathize with the parents and guardians of the students who lose their lives and wish the children still receiving treatment in the hospital a speedy recovery, Eneji added.
