NAPS PRAISES DSS DG'S DEMOCRATIC GESTURE, TASKS SOWORE ON POLICY DEBATE







The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) commends the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Tosin Ajayi, and the entire leadership and personnel of the Service for the decision to halt/suspend the ongoing court proceedings involving the Presidential Candidate of African Action Congress (AAC) Mr. Omoyele Sowore until after the 2027 presidential election.


NAPS considers this development a significant victory for democracy, political participation and confidence in Nigeria’s security institutions.


When a presidential candidate can participate in the political process without credibly accusing security agencies of being used to frustrate his ambition, democracy wins. This is bigger than any individual; it is about strengthening confidence in our democratic institutions.


We however, respectfully calls on Omoyele Sowore to reciprocate this gesture by focusing his energy on his campaign, voter education and presenting his political programmes to Nigerians.


It is concerning that, as a presidential candidate, much of the public attention surrounding Sowore has centred on court proceedings and attacks on public figures rather than sustained public enlightenment on voter registration, civic participation and the issues confronting Nigerian youths.


A presidential candidate should spend more time telling Nigerians what he intends to do for them than telling Nigerians who he disagrees with.

NAPS acknowledges Sowore’s constitutional right to criticise government policies and institutions but urges him to desist from personal attacks against the personality of the DSS Director-General. Constructive criticism strengthens democracy; personal attacks against public officials do not.


We also commends Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his proactive efforts in combating kidnapping and criminality in the state, particularly the prompt rescue of abducted persons, including 15 NYSC corps members.

Every successful rescue is a victory for the victims, their families and the Nigerian state. Kogi must sustain this momentum until criminals have no safe haven in the state.

We therefore urge Governor Ododo not to relent in the fight against kidnapping, banditry and other crimes, while strengthening collaboration with all security agencies and relevant community stakeholders.


Finally, NAPS calls on all politicians, particularly aspirants, to focus on politics, policies and solutions rather than personality attacks.


We equally urge the DSS Director-General not to be distracted by provocative statements or what may amount to attention-seeking rhetoric. The Service must remain professional, focused and committed to national security and the rule of law.


Let politicians campaign, let security agencies protect the nation, let the judiciary interpret the law, and let Nigerians freely choose their leaders. That is the democracy we must collectively protect.

NAPS VP Comr Ibrahim Dende Praises Gov Ododo for Delivering on Security Promises

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), has commended His Excellency,  the Chief Servant of Kogi State, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, for unveiling security drones to combat insecurity in Kogi State. In a statement, the NAPS VP National Affairs Comr Usman Ibrahimnyass Dende hailed Governor Ododo for matching his words with actions, saying the move demonstrates his commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the state.
