5TH SEPTEMBER, 2026 COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF KOGI STATE STUDENTS NAKOSS NATIONAL CONVENTION 2026




PREAMBLE

The National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) National Secretariat, the umbrella body representing all Kogi students studying in tertiary institutions both Kogi State and Diaspora, held its convention at the Kogi State Youths House  Lokoja Kogi State on 5th September, 2026.


The convention served as a platform for students to deliberate on critical issues affecting the State, while also providing an opportunity to elect a new set of the National Executive Council members in accordance with the NAKOSS constitution and charter of demands.


ACCREDITATION OF SENATORS

The accreditation process commenced with the accreditation of delegates from accredited tertiary institutions across NAKOSS by the Assistant Secretary General of the Organisation. The delegates were accredited from tertiary institutions both Kogi State and Diaspor.

OPENING REMARKS

The Chairman of the Independent Convention Planning Committee (I-CPC), Comrade Annax , officially declared the convention open. He appreciated the presence and commitment of the senators, students, and stakeholders to the unity and progress of the zone, especially acknowledging their attendance despite tight schedules.



STATE OF CAMPUSES

NAKOSS Chapter Presidents from various institutions presented reports on challenges facing their campuses. The Senate took note of these concerns and directed the newly elected Zonal Executive Council to address them promptly and appropriately.


ELECTIONS

In accordance with the NAKOFFS constitution, the Senate unanimously resolved to proceed with elections. Voting for various National offices commenced thereafter.


CONVENTION CHAIRMAN

The Senators Unanimously resolved on nominating  Comr. Jemilat Ohunene Adams for the position of Convention Chairman. Upon assuming office, he expressed gratitude to the senators for their trust and subsequently dissolved all standing committees. He then announced the following key appointments:

Following the inauguration of the Convention Chairman and the constitution of key officials, the election of National Executive Council officers commenced. The following candidates emerged:

COMMENDATIONS

The Committee commended the following individuals and institutions:


1. The Executive Governor of Kogi State His Excellency Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo FCA, for the continuous support the students community with the annual payment of Bursaries and Subvention to various students leaders.


2. Also, commended for his commitment to executing developmental projects that have a direct impact on the socioeconomic life of the Kogi State people.



3. The Department of State Services (DSS), the NSCDC and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) are commended for maintaining a peaceful atmosphere that paved the way for a free and fair election, ushering in new leadership for NAKOSS National  Secretariat. 


5. All stakeholders of the Organisation, for their invaluable support and contributions towards the successful hosting of the convention.


Finally, The Organisation commends His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, for his commitment to Nigeria's education sector, particularly the approval of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has alleviated tuition fee challenges for numerous parents and students which Kogi State Students are not left out.


The Committer also extends commendations to Kogi State  Governor His Excellency Alhaji Usman Ahmed  Ododo for his efforts in addressing economic hardship and infrastructure issues.


 Furthermore, the Committee urges him to be more proactive and enhance the security architecture of the region by collaborating to protect lives and property of the people of Kogi State.
