COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE 2026 KOGI STATE ELECTIVE CONVENTION OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATIONNIGERIAN STUDENTS (NANS) JOINT CAMPUS COUNCIL KOGI STATE.

The National Independent Convention Planning Committee (IN-CPC) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council Kogi State, hereinafter referred to as “the IN-CPC,” having successfully conducted the 2026 Kogi State Elective Convention and electoral process on Saturday, 22nd August, 2026, and thereafter duly constituted the Communique Drafting Committee by nomination at the Kogi State Youths House Lokoja, hereby issues this communiqué for the information of the general public, relevant stakeholders, educational institutions, government agencies, and the Kogi State at large.
PREAMBLE
The Convention witnessed the convergence of Students’ Union Government (SUG) Presidents, serving as Senators of NANS, delegates, stakeholders, observers, and student leaders drawn from various tertiary institutions across Kogi State. The Chairman of the Independent Convention Planning Committee (IN-CPC), Comr. Alooma Idris, ably represented by the Vice Chairman, formally declared the convention open.
Following the declaration by the Chairman of the Independent Convention Planning Committee (IN-CPC) officially kicking off the convention proceedings, Comr. Alooma Idris, ably represented by the Vice Chairman, delivered his opening address.
In his address, he appreciated the entirety of Nigerian students in Kogi State for their support and confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver a credible convention. He also commended the outgoing Chairman, Comr. Ojo Samuel Adeoye, for entrusting the committee with the responsibility of overseeing the transition process of the organization. Furthermore, he extended his appreciation to all members of the 2026 IN-CPC for their dedication and commitment towards the success of the convention.
Moving forward, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Affairs, Comr. Isah Emmanuel Ojodunwene (Mario) addressed the congress.
His address centered on the strides of the Adorable Administration of Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo FCA, The Executive Governor of Kogi State in the education sector, aimed at ensuring that every Nigerian aspiring to pursue higher education has access to educational opportunities.
He also highlighted the Governors commitment to improving the quality of education, which has, in turn, led to increased subvention to tertiary institutions. Furthermore, he emphasized the administration’s efforts in maintaining industrial harmony with the students' community.
He also appreciated the Honorable Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development Hon Monday Aridaojo Anyebe for his outstanding efforts shown towards the students community.
Accordingly, the convention proper commenced with nomination for the position of Convention Chairman, made by SUG Presidents who possess the exclusive power to do so. Comr. Muhammed Haliru was unanimously nominated to serve as a convention chairman and was consequently declared the unopposed winner and duly returned as Convention Chairman.
Moving forward, Comr. Muhammed Salisu Haliru, having been elected as the Convention Chairman, dissolved the standing committee of the Independent Convention Planning Committee (IN-CPC) and the Ojo Samuel Adeoye-led administration with immediate effect.
Furthermore, he appointed Comr.Usman Ibrahim Dende as the Convention Clerk.
Thereafter, he constituted the Communiqué Drafting Committee members as follows:

The proceedings of the Convention were conducted in accordance with the Constitution of the Association and other extant regulations governing the affairs of NANS JCC Kogi State. The Committee states, ab initio, that the electoral process was devoid of any substantial irregularity capable of vitiating the credibility of the exercise.
Following extensive consultations, deliberations, screening exercises, accreditation procedures, and democratic participation by duly accredited 12 delegates, elections were conducted peacefully and transparently, culminating in the emergence of new State Executive Officers.
The Committee expresses profound appreciation to all delegates, stakeholders, security agencies, observers, and participants whose contributions, inter alia, ensured the success of the Convention.

The Convention Planning Committee, therefore, mandates the aforesaid officers to discharge their
constitutional duties with utmost good faith, accountability, transparency, and fidelity to the ideals and objectives of the association.
The newly elected leadership is further enjoined to act intra vires, the Constitution of NANS, and to refrain from acts capable of undermining the unity, stability, and integrity of the Association.
STATE OF THE NATION
The Convention Planning Committee acknowledges that with profound appreciation, the support and
cooperation extended to the Association by the Government of Kogi State under the leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo FCA.
The Association hereby conveys its gratitude to the president for creating an enabling environment that facilitated a smooth, peaceful, free, fair, and credible electoral process during the just-concluded Convention
The body further appreciates the efforts of relevant security agencies and stakeholders who acted bona fide in ensuring the maintenance of peace, law, and order throughout the duration of the Convention proceedings.
RESOLUTIONS OF THE CONVENTION
After due deliberation, the Association unanimously resolved as follows:
To uphold the principles of democratic governance, constitutionalism, and responsible student unionism within the Association;
To promote unity, peaceful coexistence, and national integration among Nigerian students irrespective of ethnic, religious, or political affiliations;
To continue constructive engagement with government institutions and relevant stakeholders on issues affecting students’ welfare and educational development;
To advocate, inter alia, for improved educational funding, institutional reforms, students’ security, and academic excellence across Nigerian tertiary institutions;
To ensure that the affairs of the Association are conducted with due process and in strict compliance with the Constitution of NANS and other extant regulatory frameworks.
CONCLUSION
The National Independent Convention Planning Committee (IN-CPC) Joint Campus Council Kogi State, alongside the Communique Drafting Committee, having successfully discharged its mandate in good conscience, hereby declares the 2026 Kogi State Elective Convention of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council Kogi State duly concluded.
The Committee, therefore, calls upon all members and stakeholders of the Association to support the newly elected leadership for the collective advancement of Nigerian students and the educational sector at large.
