NAPS MOURNS SLAIN D.S. ADEGBENRO ICT POLYTECHNIC STUDENT, CALLS FOR URGENT ACTION TO SECURE CAMPUSES.

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), through the Office of the Special Assistant on Student Affairs to the Vice President (National Affairs), is grieving and outraged over the brutal killing of a female student of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori-Ewekoro, Ogun State.


The young student reportedly lost her life during an alleged armed robbery attack in the Eruku community. What should have been another day of learning ended in bloodshed — another life cut short in the pursuit of education.


This incident is not an isolated case. It reflects a growing pattern of insecurity that has turned our campuses and host communities into danger zones. Students who leave their homes with dreams and aspirations are now forced to live in constant fear, and too many are paying with their lives because of systemic failures to protect them.


NAPS condemns this act in the strongest terms. We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family, to the management and Students’ Union Government of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, and to the entire student community. We mourn with you, and we stand with you.


The time for statements alone is over. What is required now is action.  

The management of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic must urgently review and strengthen its security architecture in partnership with security agencies, community leaders, and student representatives. Safety cannot be an afterthought.


The Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies must launch a thorough investigation, bring the perpetrators to book, and increase visible patrols around student hostels and surrounding areas. Students need protection they can see, not promises they cannot feel.


The Ogun State Government must treat the security of students and host communities as a matter of urgent public importance. This means increased security presence around tertiary institutions, faster emergency response, and sustainable policies to root out criminal elements.


At the national level, the Federal Government must rise to the occasion. The repeated attacks on students demand a comprehensive framework for securing educational institutions, intelligence-driven policing, and real investment in student safety across Nigeria.


NAPS will not be silent while our members continue to die from preventable failures. We will continue to speak, to push, and to demand until every polytechnic student can learn in peace, live without fear, and return home safely.


We call on student leaders, civil society organizations, and all well-meaning Nigerians to join this demand for justice and for safer campuses.


Education should never become a death sentence.  

Justice for the slain student! Safe Campuses Now! Aluta Continua! Victoria Ascerta!
