Yaba Flags Off Scholarship Payment for NECO Candidates in Lokoja
Hon. A.A. Yaba Maisaka has flagged off the payment of National Examination Council (NECO) registration fees for selected students in Lokoja Local Government Area, as part of his commitment to educational development and grassroots empowerment.
The scholarship payment commenced with students of Muslim Community Secondary School Lokongoma , Al-Ansar Secondary School, New Layout, and Government Girls Secondary School, Sarkin Noma.
The registration fees, which range between N50,000 and N60,000 per student, are being paid for beneficiaries drawn from different wards across Lokoja Local Government Area.
According to Maisaka, the beneficiaries were carefully selected from among less privileged students and orphans, while another category of beneficiaries emerged on merit, based on outstanding academic performance and recommendations from their school principals.
Yaba said the initiative targets the registration of 125 students for the 2026 NECO examination within Lokoja LGA.
He noted that the intervention has become a regular exercise, adding that education remains the foundation for societal growth and development.
Also in attendance was Hon. Aisha Amale, Councilor representing Ward E at the program and presented some scholarship forms on behalf of Yaba.
She commended Yaba for his consistent support toward education, saying his efforts were complementing government’s drive to improve access to quality education and assist less privileged families.
The aspirant, who is seeking to represent Lokoja I Constituency at the Kogi State House of Assembly under the platform of All Progressives Congress, assured residents that he would expand support programmes if elected.
“If God ordains that I emerge victorious, I will do more for the people and continue to prioritise education and human capital development,” he said.
Parents and school principals who spoke during the exercise commended Yaba for what they described as a timely intervention, noting that many families would have struggled to meet the registration deadline.
They also recalled that the politician recently sponsored the registration of 50 candidates who sat for the concluded Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examination.
Observers say the latest scholarship scheme is one of several grassroots support programmes undertaken by Maisaka in recent times.
